More than 200 flights headed in and out of Denver International Airport were delayed on Thursday after the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay.
At of 8:50 a.m. Thursday, 232 flights had been delayed and one had been canceled, according to flight tracking software .
That number went down to 202 delays at 9:45 a.m. after the FAA lifted the ground delay order early, allowing some flights to get back on schedule.
The issued the DIA ground delay at 8 a.m. for “low ceilings,” which refers to the lowest level of cloud cover. The ground delay was originally scheduled through 1 p.m. Thursday.
Flights headed into DIA were being delayed an average of 36 minutes during the hour and a half the ground delay was active, . Those delays caused other flights headed out of DIA to leave the gate late.
Another DIA ground delay is “probable” after 4 p.m., .
Southwest delayed 74 flights and canceled one, United delayed 57 flights, SkyWest delayed 36 flights, Frontier delayed 10 flights, Delta delayed eight flights and American Airlines delayed six flights.
Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Copa Airlines, Icelandair and Key Lime Air all delayed between one and five flights at DIA on Thursday.
