At least three people, including children, are dead after a Wednesday afternoon near Cedar Point in Elbert County, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Details about the deceased and those involved in the crash were not yet available.

The crash — about 13 miles west of Limon — happened at mile post 348 on I-70 around 2:30 p.m.

A blue 2021 Subaru Forester rear-ended a semi-truck hauling a trailer, CSP said. Five people were in the Subaru and at least three passengers died, CSP said. The Subaru driver was taken to a local hospital.

The remaining passenger was badly injured, and it wasn’t clear as of 5 p.m. whether they would pull through, CSP said.

CSP initially reported that four people had been killed.

The semi-truck driver was not injured, CSP said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, CSP said.

This is a developing story that will be updated.
