Denver is bracing for triple-digit temperatures Wednesday that could break the city’s record for the hottest July 9, according to the National Weather Service.

The sunny, hot weather is forecast to peak at 101 degrees in Denver on Wednesday, . If it does, it will break the set in 2022.

Near-record heat is also expected across Colorado’s Eastern Plains, with temperatures forecast to hover between 98 and 102 degrees, according to the .

A will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday for Denver, Larimer, Weld, Boulder, Jefferson, Broomfield, Douglas, Adams and Arapahoe counties.

“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors,” forecasters stated in the advisory.

Temperatures across Denver and the Eastern Plains will drop back into the high double digits on Thursday, and thunderstorms could cool city temperatures down to the low 80s on Friday, forecasters said.
