A Littleton motorcyclist was killed Saturday night on Interstate 25 in Douglas County after he was struck by a vehicle, ejected from his motorcycle and then hit twice by other motorists in what amounted to a six-vehicle crash.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gabriel Moltrer said the collision occurred near milepost 192 in Lone Tree around 11:15 p.m. A Toyota RAV4 struck the side of a Kawasaki EX-6 motorcycle that was moving “laterally” across the northbound lanes, ejecting its driver.
A Hyundai Sonata then struck the 21-year-old male driver on the ground and pulled over to the right shoulder. A Kia Telluride struck the EX-6 and drove off the right side of the road, taking a half roll. An Infiniti Q50 then struck the motorcycle rider again and pulled over to the shoulder, Moltrer said.
A Toyota Corolla struck some debris from the collision and also pulled over to the right shoulder. The EX-6 motorcycle came to a final rest off the right shoulder of I-25 while the RAV4 also came to a rest on the same shoulder, Moltrer said.
Aside from the motorcycle fatality, the 43-year-old male occupant of the Sonata, who lives in Northglenn, suffered minor injuries. No one else involved in the crash was injured.
The number of people killed in motorcycle crashes in Colorado has increased nearly 60% since 2015 and about half of all fatal crashes involve someone not wearing a helmet, according to state data. Colorado State Patrol officials said it appeared the motorcyclist in the Saturday crash appeared not to be wearing a helmet, according to preliminary information.
