Denver emergency crews responded around noon Monday to a report of an employee who fell into a corn silo at a Frito-Lay plant in Denver.
The Denver Fire Department said on the social media platform X that the man fell about 40 feet down the silo at the plant, which is at 3995 Nome St. Capt. Dan Wilson said the man landed on the corn, “which softened his fall.”
There was a ladder leading up the side of the silo. Wilson said he didn’t know how the man fell. Crews lowered rescue equipment to the man, who was able to put on the harness and climb up a ladder near the top to get out.
Wilson said the man told responders that he wasn’t injured. Paramedics checked the man at the scene. Wilson didn’t know if the man was taken to the hospital.
PepsiCo spokeswoman Andrea Foote in an email Tuesday that the employee received medical care for minor injuries and is expected to be all right.
“Safety is our top priority, and we are reviewing the incident in line with our standard protocols. The incident did not impact our operations or products,” Foote said.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident, spokeswoman Chauntra Rideaux said.
