A 47-year-old man driving his truck the wrong way in Brighton early Tuesday crashed head-on into another vehicle, seriously injuring the female driver.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m. near Mt. Bierstadt and East Bridge streets. Police said the male driver was driving his truck east in the westbound lanes when the collision occurred. Alcohol was likely a contributing factor, police said.

The male driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. He later died there, police said. The woman he crashed into, whose identity was not released, also was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. No update was provided about her condition.

The male driver’s identity is being withheld pending identification by the coroner’s office and notification of family.
