More than 600 flights were delayed Monday at Denver International Airport during a thunderstorm-fueled ground delay issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Flights headed in and out of Denver were being delayed by an average of 62 minutes as of 6:45 p.m. Monday, . The agency also put in place a ground stop from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. due to thunderstorms.
At 6:45p.m., 608 flights had been delayed and three had been canceled, according to flight tracking software .
Southwest delayed 215 flights, followed by 170 from United, 137 from SkyWest and 35 from Frontier. Seven other airlines delayed between one and 14 flights.
American Airlines canceled two flights and United canceled one, according to FlightAware.
Thunderstorms are most likely Monday at DIA between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to from the National Weather Service. Rain showers are expected to continue after the thunderstorms end and into the Tuesday morning commute.
More than an inch of rain is forecast for Denver on Tuesday as snow accumulates in the mountains, forecasters said. No snow is expected in Denver.
