Five swimmers were sent to the hospital Tuesday night after an acid spill at a Greenwood Village pool, according to South Metro Fire Rescue officials.
Firefighters responded to a hazardous materials call at the Sundance Pool in the 5626 S. Galena St. at 5:55 p.m., agency officials said on social media.
The incident occurred while someone was adjusting the pH levels of the pool with muriatic acid, also known as hydrochloric acid, South Metro spokesperson Matthew Assell said.
Crews were able to quickly isolate the spill and the acid dissipated into the pool, Assell said. Five members of an unidentified swim team were taken to hospitals for evaluation, he said.
Updates on the swimmers’ conditions were not available Wednesday, and no new injuries had been reported.
This is a developing story.
