The University of Colorado Boulder announced on Monday that Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai will be the closing speaker at the university’s annual Conference on World Affairs in April.

Yousafzai, 28, began her activism at 11 years old by anonymously blogging about life under the Taliban in Pakistan’s Swat Valley and its ban on girls’ education. After surviving an assassination attempt at 15, she founded the Malala Fund to champion education for all girls worldwide.

In 2014, she became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Yousafzai is an Oxford University graduate, best-selling author and investor in women’s sports.

“Malala’s voice embodies the spirit of CWA — bold, visionary and committed to engaging the issues of our world,” Jon Leslie, CU Boulder’s vice chancellor for strategic communications, said in a release. “We are honored to welcome her as our closing speaker during this milestone year for CU Boulder.”

The conference, which is in its 78th year, launches CU Boulder’s 150th anniversary as an institution, according to the release.

CWA will take place from April 13 to 16 at the CU Boulder campus and the Limelight Hotel. The conference is free and open to all, but the Yousafzai event will require tickets. More information on the event details and how to get tickets, which are free, will be announced in the coming weeks at .

The Conference on World Affairs, which started in 1948, is an annual conference that brings together dozens of global leaders and experts to spark timely, thought-provoking conversations on relevant issues in the world. CWA is organized by a volunteer program committee of students and community members.
