Prosecutors declined to file charges against a Denver man who was arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing his on-again, off-again partner at a Sunnyside home, according to officials.

Christopher Thomas “CT” Fielder was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in the Jan. 5 death of 30-year-old Saquan “Miles” Verner in the 4200 block of North Lipan Street.

Officers were called to the neighborhood at 9:46 p.m. and found Verner lying on the ground outside a home with a stab wound to the upper chest, according to an arrest affidavit. He was pronounced dead at Denver Health a short time later.

Police also found blood inside the home and determined Fielder had called 911 about 30 minutes before the stabbing to report a domestic violence assault and harassment. The pair had a history of domestic violence issues, investigators said.

“After reviewing all the evidence and facts of the case, we concluded that we could not prove Fielder’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, which is the standard we must meet to file charges,” Denver District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Matt Jablow said in an email Tuesday.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
