A person was taken to a hospital after they were struck by lightning in Superior on Thursday afternoon.

About 5:39 p.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1000 block of Lasalle Street on a report that someone had been hit by lightning, according to sheriff’s office spokesperson Vinnie Montez. The person was injured and taken to a local hospital, he said.

Montez said the person was female, but he said he did not know her age.

Based on data since 1980, lightning causes two fatalities and 12 injuries per year in Colorado, according to the .
