A man fired from the Aurora Police Department in December after being arrested in a Westminster domestic violence incident pleaded guilty in February to two misdemeanors, according to court records.

Philip Lawrence Sullivan, 37, pleaded guilty on Feb. 23 to prohibited use of a weapon and third-degree assault, both class one misdemeanors, Adams County court records show. The case was marked “proven” in court records for domestic violence.

The plea deal dismissed six other misdemeanor charges from Sullivan’s case, including obstructing law enforcement, resisting arrest, harassment and child abuse.

Sullivan was fired in December from the Aurora Police Department after he was arrested in the domestic violence incident at his Westminster home. The man had been hired as a patrolman in January 2025.

Westminster officers responded to the incident at Sullivan’s home in the 9000 block of Osceola Street just before 7 p.m. on Nov. 26, 2025. Sullivan’s wife told police that he had shoved her and thrown things at her, sparking a fight that ended with him arming himself while she hid with her three children, according to the arrest affidavit.

The wife and children escaped the home when officers arrived, but it took roughly 3 hours of negotiations for Sullivan to surrender to police.

Sullivan was granted a 2-year deferred sentence on each of the charges he pleaded guilty to, court records show. If he meets the conditions of his sentence, the charges will be removed from his record.
