A 28-year-old man died after he was found unresponsive early Friday morning in his Adams County jail cell,

The man was unconsciousness and not breathing when a deputy found him during a cell check shortly after midnight Friday, according to a post on X.com. He was removed from his cell and given Narcan, which is used to reverse opioid overdoses. Medical staff and emergency personnel arrived and provided life-saving measures on scene, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said, but the man was pronounced dead at the Platte Valley Medical Center later that morning.

It’s unclear how long the man had been unconscious. Sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Shea Haney said he had no additional details. The agency is investigating, and the coroner’s office will later determine the cause of death. The man’s identity has not been released, pending notification of his family.
