The Nuggets are signing former Denver West High School player Alpha Diallo to a one-year, $1.4 million contract in free agency, a league source told The Denver Post on Sunday, confirming a report by ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Diallo, 29, was named Defensive Player of the Year last season in the EuroLeague, which is largely considered the second-best league in the world. This will be his first foray into the NBA.
Born in New York, Diallo moved to Denver when he was growing up and spent his high school days in Colorado before he went back east for college. After playing his entire NCAA career at Providence, he went to Europe, where he has spent the last five years playing for AS Monaco.
