A large brush fire burning along Interstate 25 north of Colorado Springs on Monday shut down the southbound highway for more than two hours, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The fire consumed roughly 4 acres, roughly the size of three football fields, before it was fully contained, . The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, southbound I-25 had reopened between Exit 156 for Northgate Boulevard and Exit 158 for Baptist Road. The northern lanes were also briefly closed in that area on Monday for “fire activity” and low visibility.

“The intensity with which (the fire) burned testifies to how dry things are and why we hope you are wildfire ready,” Larkspur Fire Protection District officials .
Larkspur firefighters and crews from the Colorado Springs Fire Department, U.S. Air Force Academy, Palmer Lake Fire Department, El Paso County Wildland Fire, Colorado Springs Utilities, CDOT and the Colorado State Patrol all responded to the fire on Monday.
