A 15-year-old boy died after being in distress while swimming in a Windsor lake on Saturday.
Windsor Severance Fire Rescue got a call at about 7:26 p.m. Saturday about a 15-year-old male in distress at Rock Bridge Lake, in the southwest corner of the intersection of Water Valley Parkway and Colorado 257.
Crews pulled the boy out of the water at about 8:14 p.m., where he was then taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, according to a Windsor Severance Fire Rescue spokesperson.
The lake backs up to houses in the Water Valley neighborhood, and a resident called police after hearing the boy’s friend yelling for help.
Fire crews are not sure exactly what happened. When the boy was pulled out of the water, he was about 40 feet away from the shore in water that was about 10 feet deep.
The boy was identified as Evan Alexander Cole from Windsor, according to a Weld County Coroner’s Office news release.
Cole was a student at Windsor Charter Academy, . Grief counselors are available at the high school for students.
