The band Goose played a surprise concert Wednesday night at a house party on Boulder’s University Hill ahead of its three-day run. Police shut it down.
Videos posted Thursday morning to X show a Boulder police officer confronting one of the band’s members on a stage. Goose itself showing that on Wednesday night, it played a pop-up gig in a Boulder backyard that appears to be the same place as the one seen in videos posted on social media showing the confrontation with police.

At that show, a Boulder police officer got on stage and stood next to Goose while the band played their seventh song, “Animal,” according to . One video shows the officer making the “turn it off” motion with his hand to his neck when a band member puts one finger up and continues playing.
Boulder police responded to a noise complaint around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of 18th Street, according to spokesperson Jennifer Ciplet. Police arrived to find Goose’s music causing all the noise, Ciplet wrote in an email, which prompted police to ask the band to shut down the music during what would become the last song of the set.
Police issued a municipal summons for a nuisance party to the resident who was hosting the event, Ciplet wrote. Noise complaints are common as University of Colorado Boulder students come back to the city for the new school year, she added.
“I will admit that itap pretty awesome that a band as big as Goose showed up to play some backyard music in Boulder,” Boulder police Chief Stephen Redfearn told the Daily Camera in an email. “At the same time, it is the duty of the Boulder Police Department to ensure that Boulder is a community where everyone’s needs are balanced and respected when it comes to noise and large gatherings.”
Redfearn wrote that some officers at the police department, which shut down the party, enjoy Goose’s music.
Consequence Sound reported that by the time Goose finished “Animal,” a track off their 2025 album “Everything Must Go,” 10 Boulder police officers were at the party.
The band was set to play longer had police not ended the show, which started with local band Sunkissd playing a set as scheduled, Consequence Sound reported.
Goose played its first show at Red Rocks on Thursday night, according to the . The band is scheduled to play at the amphitheater again Friday night and Tuesday night, according to Goose’s website.
