One person was taken to a hospital after a single-engine aircraft left the runway while trying to take off at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in the Broomfield area Friday morning.

North Metro Fire Rescue responded to the airport about 10:30 a.m., according to a social media post from the department. The two people on board were able to get out without assistance, and one was taken to a local hospital, according to the post.

A photo posted by the department showed a small white and red plane lying overturned in grass, with one wing that appeared to be bent.

Officials don’t yet know what caused the plane to leave the runway, but believe the plane wasn’t yet airborne, according to Sydny Boyd, an airport spokesperson.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident, Boyd said.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
