The University of Colorado system will move its headquarters from Denver’s Uptown neighborhood to Independence Plaza.
The system said Thursday that it will sell its building at 1800 Grant St., which it bought in 2006 for $14 million. It did not specify an asking price.
The current building is 115,000 square feet and underutilized, according to CU. The system will take less space in Independence Plaza, the 25-story, 567,000-square-foot tower at 1050 17th St. in downtown Denver.
CU spokeswoman Michele Ames said the exact amount hasn’t been determined. More than 600 people work in CU administration, she said.
“Most employees work a hybrid in-office, virtual schedule based on the needs of the area where they work,” Ames said.
CU bought Independence Plaza in August for $28 million, primarily for use by CU Denver.
CU said the move will also give it better office space and a more secure facility, while giving employees better access to restaurants and public transportation.
The system expects to move to Independence Plaza next year.
