Zahira Torres was an education reporter for The Denver Post until 2014.

Michelle Judson and her 12-year-old son, Jacob, spend some time together at their home. In 2010, when he was in fourth grade at Prairie Hills Elementary in the Adams 12 school district, he was stabbed in the finger with a metal ruler that a classmate sharpened with a pair of scissors. The classmate was arrested on assault charges and suspended for five days after Judson called police to report what happened. But discipline records for the school that year show no assaults at the campus.
