Aurora – The rain, snow, cold and wind that created havoc with scholastic sports scheduling down the stretch of spring’s regular season forced the Colorado High School Activities Association to delay some of its postseason seeding.

In particular, the CHSAA announced Monday the 32-team playoff fields for classes 5A and 4A baseball, originally scheduled to be released Wednesday, will be announced Thursday.

“We’re trying to make sure everybody gets a chance to complete their regular season to ensure accurate seeding,” said Bert Borgmann, assistant CHSAA commissioner. “We’d like for them to have a chance to get in their games.”

First and second rounds in 5A-4A postseason baseball will be Saturday. Eight teams in each class will serve as hosts. Two victories will put teams into the following weekend’s first round of double-elimination play.

The 3A-2A groups will be in district play this week through Saturday.

Also, the CHSAA will release lacrosse postseason brackets today (32 teams for boys, 16 for girls), and girls soccer 16-team brackets will be available Thursday afternoon.

Invesco Field done deal

It’s official – CHSAA has signed a deal to host its upper classification football championship games at Invesco Field at Mile High.

The deal, beginning with the 2005 season, is for three years, according to Borgmann.

It also includes an option for six more years with possibly adding Class 3A to the 5A and 4A title games in 2007.
