University of Denver nordic skier Rene Reisshauer was named the male college skier of the year by Ski Racing magazine.

Reisshauer, of Oberhof, Germany, won two NCAA individual championships and became the second DU skier to win both the 10-kilometer classical and 20K freestyle races in helping the Pioneers win all five invitational team titles and their 18th NCAA championship.

Gait exits with award

Gary Gait of the Colorado Mammoth earned the National Lacrosse League’s sportsmanship award for the second consecutive year after splitting the award with Peter Lough of the Arizona Sting last season.

Gait led the Mammoth to an 8-8 regular-season record in 2005, his final season. The fifteen-year veteran and team captain served only four penalty minutes the entire season.

Gait retired as the league’s all-time leading scorer with 1,091 points and the all-time leading goal scorer with 596.

Mesa soccer signings

The Mesa State women’s soccer team signed eight players for next season, including two from Colorado.

The Coloradans are Eia Hartfield, a defender from Ralston Valley High School, and Nicole Teiffel, a midfielder/defender from Heritage.

Tyler Coffman, a 6-foot-7 forward from Brighton High School, signed to play men’s basketball at Chadron (Neb.) State.

CU netters honored

Colorado senior Kendra Strandemo was named to the all-Big 12 tennis team as a singles player, and as half of the doubles team with junior Jessica Strickland.

Strandemo, 6-3 against Big 12 opponents at No. 2 singles, and Strickland went 9-6 in conference at No. 1 doubles.

CU junior Marko Bundalo, who won a team-best 20 matches this season, was named to the men’s team.
