We all have our definition of the word hero – and for youngsters served by the Rocky Mountain Children’s Law Center, the attorneys who represent their best interests as their cases wend their way through the justice system are superheroes.
Which made it easy for the nonprofit agency founded by Shari Shink to bill its signature fundraiser, the Champions for Children Dinner, An Evening of Heroic Proportions. The event held at the Marriott City Center paid tribute to lawyers Daniel J. Dunn of Holme Roberts & Owen and Janet Savage of Davis Graham & Stubbs; the Thomas Taber & Drazen advertising and marketing agency also was honored.
Pediatrician Dean Prina was the honorary chairman, following in the distinguished footsteps of predecessors Anna Sie and Steve and Cindy Farber. J.C. Coble presented the League of Justice Awards.

The Central City Opera’s new director of development is Charlotte Gillespie, who brings a wealth of experience to the job. Previously, she held similar positions with Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center and Colorado Christian Home. She replaces Nancy Brittain, who has retired … Sherry Jackson ends her term as president of Denver chapter of the Links Inc. at the end of this month, but it won’t mean a life of leisure has begun. She was just named executive director of the Colorado Democratic Party … And in the interest of equal time, Rachael Sunbarger is the state GOP’s new director of communications, moving to Colorado from Washington, where she had postings in the Bush White House and with Homeland Security Director Tom Ridge. Rachael’s boyfriend is Joe Nolan, son of retired sports anchor Mike Nolan and Nancy Sagar, the spokeswoman for Neiman Marcus Cherry Creek.
Denver chapter of ARCS (Achievement Rewards for College Scientists) honors Dr. James Shore at its Spring Gala. Terri Biddinger is chairing the event that also celebrates Shore’s retirement as chancellor of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. The Western-theme dinner and auction takes place Thursday at the Donald R. Seawell Grand Ballroom … Also on Thursday: Project PAVE’s luncheon honoring former Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter; a membership tea hosted by AWARE, a guild of Rocky Mountain chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association; and the preview party for the Denver Botanic Gardens’ plant sale … The 2005 Newborn Hope Fashion Show, featuring styles from the merchants of Cherry Creek North, is on Friday at the Marriott Denver Tech Center.
