The besieged superintendent of the Estes Park school district is leaving for a new post as a top administrator with the school district in Greeley.

Jeffrey Miller was placed on paid administrative leave by the Park School District board of education last month after serving eight months. The board gave no reason for the move, and it sparked talk of a recall of the school board by residents who wanted an explanation.

“My feeling is that when you go through a superintendent search and, eight months later, we find out it was the wrong choice … we’re left with nothing but confusion,” said parent Kris Adams.

Miller was hired by the Weld County School District 6 board as assistant superintendent and begins July 1, said Olive Richter, secretary to the board.

The Weld 6 superintendent, Renae Dreier, is aware of Miller’s suspension, according to the Estes Park Trail Gazette. Neither Dreier nor Miller could be reached for comment Monday.

The open superintendent’s job in Estes Park will be discussed Wednesday at a school board meeting.

Richard Kastendieck, superintendent in Estes Park from 1995 to December 2003, was sentenced to four years in prison last month for embezzling nearly $60,000 from the district.

Current district employee Marylee DeLeo is accused of embezzling more than $21,000.
