An explosion rocked a concrete-mixing warehouse Tuesday afternoon on South Santa Fe Drive in Denver.
The blast occurred about 1:15 p.m. at U.S. Mix Products Co. at 108 S. Santa Fe Drive. No one was injured, said Denver Fire Chief Larry Trujillo.
U.S. Mix produces concrete and mortar mixes sold by the bag at building suppliers.
An employee called 911 to report the explosion, Trujillo said.
It occurred in an explosion room inside the warehouse. Trujillo said such a room is where chemicals are mixed.
A hazardous-materials team was called out after an unknown chemical was detected in the air.
About 20 firefighters were decontaminated outside the business after a small fire was extinguished, Trujillo said.
Police shut down Santa Fe from West Sixth to West Alameda avenues for an hour. The railroad tracks that run near the business were also closed while firefighters checked the safety of the area.
Firefighters also checked the stability of the building Tuesday because a couple of bricks came down after the blast.
