Embattled University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill has until later today to respond to allegations that he plagiarized other people’s work.
A committee investigating Churchill has asked the ethnic studies professor to answer claims that he copied or misrepresented other authors’ works, and that he may have misrepresented his American Indian heritage.
Churchill has denied any wrongdoing.
Officials determined previously that the First Amendment protects comments Churchill made in a 2001 essay comparing some victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to a notorious Nazi.
The panel says Churchill can’t be punished for those comments, but could lose his job if investigators find evidence of plagiarism.
