ESTES PARK

“Peace Tree” grows into concert

A concert to benefit local, national and international peace and veterans’ groups will be held Sunday at the Mishawaka Ampitheater, 13 miles up Poudre Canyon.

The Peace Tree Benefit Concert is being held as a tribute to the carved “Peace Tree” that rested on Paul Sterling’s property on U.S. 34 near Estes Park. When CDOT threatened to cut the tree down, Sterling climbed to the top of it and staged a sit-in for several days.

Authorities eventually cut down the tree, but an idea shaped up for a benefit concert to help fund local peace efforts, Sterling said.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the show. Children under 12 are free.

Tickets are available at ABCD’s (Fort Collins), King Soopers, Ticketwest Outlets and Albums on the Hill. For more information, contact Cheryl Distaso at 970-484-8039 or distaso@frii.com or visit www.thepeacetree.org.
