JEFFERSON COUNTY

Summer readers, start your pages

The Jefferson County library system will launch its summer reading club for all ages today.

If summer readers report a total of at least 125,000 hours of reading, the Jefferson County Library Foundation has pledged to donate $1,000 worth of books to Bridgeway Homes in Lakewood, which serves pregnant and parenting teens.

Children and teens who read eight hours by the end of July may select a new paperback book as a reward. There also will be other prizes and several entertaining and educational programs.

Infants to elementary-school children should sign up in the children’s room of their libraries. Those 11 and older should go to the adult information desk to sign up. For more information, visit http://jefferson.lib.co.us.

AURORA

Pots thrown, questions answered

Don’t know a pottery glaze from a glazed doughnut? That’s no problem at an open house Saturday that will feature pottery and sculpture experts who can answer your art questions.

The event – from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Aurora’s Bicentennial Art Center, 13655 E. Alameda Ave. – also will have artists molding clay on pottery wheels who then fire their works in on-site kilns. For more information on the event, call 303-344- 1776 or visit www.auroragov.org.
