A 13-year-old girl was struck in the back of her head by lightning during a softball scrimmage Friday evening in Pueblo.
Janae Montes was in critical condition Saturday at Denver Children’s Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Montes and her teammates were warming up at East High School’s softball field at about 6 p.m. when lightning struck her, leaving burn marks on her head and a leg, where the bolt exited, Pueblo Fire Department officials said.
“A bystander heard lightning crack and heard a rumble, and turned to see the patient fall to the ground,” a fire report stated.
