The food bank at Denver Urban Ministries needs donations from the public, executive director Tammy Mulligan said Monday.
Last week, the food bank had to close for two days because the pantry was out of food, she said.
The food bank relies on donations from churches, but during the summer, donations typically taper off.
The need is also higher this year than it was last year, Mulligan said.
Denver Urban Ministries was serving 680 bags of food a month last year and this year is serving 730 bags a month, an increase of about 7 percent.
The food bank needs nonperishable items such as canned tuna, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruit, cereal, spaghetti sauce, rice and noodles.
Anyone who wants to make a financial or food donation may go to Denver Urban Ministries, 1717 E. Colfax Ave.
