Here are examples of test questions from the CSAP, taken from tests given in previous years. The grade levels and subject areas are in bold.
Fifth-grade math
During the summer, Henry earns $5 per hour babysitting and $4 per hour mowing lawns.
Part A: Henry babysat a total of 48 hours. How much money did he earn babysitting?
Part B: Including the 48 hours of babysitting, Henry earned a total of $308 by the end of summer. How many hours did he spend mowing lawns?
Answers: A: $240
B: 17 hours
The test scorer is looking for multiplication, subtraction, division or other valid processes.
Third-grade writing
What makes you happy? Write a paragraph in which you describe something that makes you happy and explain why it makes you happy.
Scorer is looking for students to write and speak for a variety of purposes and audiences using conventional grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization and spelling. Must be written in paragraph form.
Fifth-grade writing
Imagine that you have become a hero for a day. Write a story about the day you became a hero. Remember to include characters, details, a beginning, a middle and an end.
