A 47-year-old man who is accused of murder and cocaine distribution at the notorious Alpine Rose Motel in Adams County made his initial appearance Friday in U.S. District Court in Denver.
William L. Gladney had been arrested last month in Memphis, Tenn., outside a Chinese restaurant and was returned to Colorado to face federal charges. Gladney is among more than a dozen people who face charges relating to the prostitution, drug dealing and drug manufacturing that went on at the motel, on Federal Boulevard.
Gladney is suspected in the Oct. 23 fatal shooting of Marlo Earl Johnson.
In an unrelated case, state authorities have charged Gladney with criminally negligent homicide in the pit bull mauling death of a 40-year-old woman in Elbert County in 2003.
