A number of Denverites have second homes in New Orleans – and they’re plenty worried for their pads and sad for the people.

Realtors Al and Debbie Latham own a small condo on the second floor of an old building in the north end of the French Quarter. They’re been going down to the Big Easy for years. “The worst part is just not knowing what’s happening,” Al says. “The TV reporters are driving me crazy. I see them standing in the Warehouse District saying they’re in the French Quarter. They just don’t know where they are down there.”

Al says he’ll drive down to New Orleans to see it as soon as it opens up again. And so will developer Ralph Riggs, who owns a house in the quarter with Denver builder Charles Jordy.

“I don’t know anything,” says Riggs. “And there’s nobody I can call, because there’s nobody around. But they’ll pull it together. They’re not going to let the French Quarter die, but it’s going to take a long, long time.”

All hail Chris the king

I just got a “honk if you hate chris” bumper sticker in the mail – a promo for the upcoming Chris Rock TV series “Everybody Hates Chris.”

But we love Chris in Denver. Chris Daniels & the Kings, that is, the band that’ll rock Civic Center at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Taste of Colorado.

The band is just out with its 10th album, titled “10.” And it’s played Denver for 21 years.

“It’s been a treat,” says Daniels. “I’m the luckiest guy in the world. We started out to always have fun and we’ve managed to maintain that.”

The boys head to Europe for their 14th tour next month. On Sunday, they’ll play lotsa tracks from their new CD. “It’s a return to where we started,” says Daniels. “Horn-band funk. It’s fun to come back to that. We’ve gone to a lot of places over the years.”

Food fodder

The old Josephina’s space at Larimer Square will be jumping in October with Corridor 44, a champagne/cocktail bar/lounge serving small plates. Owner/op Eric Laslow recently moved here from Portland, Ore., where he owned the much-lauded Laslow’s Northwest.

Why the oddball name? A 44-foot long corridor connects the front bar to the back lounge – not the perfect design. So he decided to make some fun of it rather than live in denial. “It is a unique design, that’s for sure,” says Laslow. “But each room will have a distinct personality, so the corridor is really a link.”

The Gabby Gourmet again presents the fine dining area at the Taste of Colorado from Friday through Monday with 1515, Broker, Maggiano’s, Rhapsody’s at Clear Creek, Samba Room and Wolfgang Puck Express.

Del Frisco’s won the American Institute of Wine & Food’s annual Caesar Salad contest last month.
