Shanrene Inc., an online jewelry business based in Boulder, began selling blue-and-white silicone wristbands Wednesday in support of Hurricane Katrina’s victims.
By Thursday morning, the company had sold out of all of its bracelets, which read “Hope, Faith, Courage and Strength.”
The company said it will donate to the American Red Cross all net proceeds from the bracelet sales, or at least 50 cents on every $1 bracelet sold. Its goal is to raise $100,000.
“We’ve been amazed at the response,” said Shannon McWilliams, who started Shanrene three years ago.
McWilliams is in the process of ordering at least another 100,000 blue-and-while bracelets to keep up with the demand, she said. The company originally stocked the bracelets to support Red Cross tsunami relief efforts.
Shanrene also sells other brightly colored silicone bracelets that support charities such as breast-cancer and AIDS research. It has donated more than $70,000 this year, McWilliams said.
