Denver police have made an arrest in the murder of a 21-year-old who was killed while trying to stop a fight.

Luis Romero Jr. was killed early in the morning on May 8, outside the Subway Pizza Tavern on 37th and Lipan. Another man, 26-year-old Christopher Ramos, was shot but survived.

Today, police announced the arrest of Jose Alvarado-Juarez, 23.

Alvarado-Juarez was arrested last Friday and is facing first degree murder charges at the Denver City Jail.

Romero’s father said, in the days after his son’s death, that the murder was overshadowed by the killing of Denver Police Detective Donald Young on the same day.

A suspect in Young’s murder, Raul Gomez-Garcia, was arrested weeks later in Mexico.
