Getting your player ready...

Georgetown – The Loveland Ski Area has a head start in its bid to be the first ski resort in Colorado to open for the fifth straight year.

Loveland began making snow early today as temperatures dropped into the 20s.

Its main competitor, Arapahoe Basin, plans to begin making snow itself any day.

“We’ve been working on getting everything ready and have had everything in place for a couple days now,” said Mark Abrahamson, Loveland snowmaking and trail maintenance Manager, “we just needed the weather conditions to cooperate and last night they did.” Loveland Ski Area hires professional, year-round snow makers, who will return from New Zealand for a sixth consecutive season to cover the mountain trails with snow for opening day.

“Opening first is important, but we will not open for the season until we have a quality product to offer our guests,” said John Sellers, marketing director. “Skiers and riders can be sure that when we open for the season, Loveland will offer an 18 to 21 inch base, side to side coverage and a top to bottom run.
