Aurora – Aurora police say they have gathered enough information to identify a suspect in a Sept. 17 homicide outside a nightclub, but prosecutors have yet to file for an arrest warrant.

“The case was turned into the district attorney’s office (on Thursday) with an arrest warrant affidavit,” said Sgt. Rudy Herrera, Aurora Police Department spokesman.

But 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office spokesman Michael Knight said Friday no warrant would be issued until “Monday at the earliest.”

“We think it may be lacking some things,” he said of the evidence in the police report. “We are working with the Police Department.”

Herrera wouldn’t comment about whether there were any problems with the probable-cause affidavit.

The victim was Seho Park, a 22-year-old son of a well-known South Korean business owner. Police say he was an innocent bystander who was gunned down while standing in a crowd outside the Velvet Room Bar & Lounge in the 2700 block of South Parker Road.

Police say the shooting occurred after a fight involving several people broke out in the bar’s parking lot at 2:25 a.m. A crowd watched the fight.

The suspect walked away from the confrontation, got into a car, possibly with other suspects, drove by the group of people near the bar and opened fire, Herrera said.

Police say Park wasn’t involved in the fight but was hit by the gunfire.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died of his injuries. His funeral was Wednesday.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the shooting call Detective Tom Sobieski at 303-739-6710. Sobieski couldn’t be reached for comment Friday.
