Bailey – Matt Houghton’s 29-yard field goal in the fourth quarter lifted Platte Canyon to a huge Metropolitan League upset victory Saturday, 10-7 over previously undefeated Holy Family.

The Huskies improved to 2-2, 1-2 league. The Tigers, ranked No. 2 in The Denver Post/9News 2A poll, slipped to 3-1, 3-1.

Holy Family took a first-quarter lead on a 34-yard touchdown run by Tim Stockhausen. However, Platte Canyon’s Len Feroldi countered with a 1-yard plunge in the second quarter.

Houghton’s field goal and a late interception in the end zone sealed it for the Huskies.

Montbello 51, West 6

Marquis Enoch ran for 159 yards and four touchdowns and Andrew Davis caught three touchdown passes as the Warriors drubbed the Cowboys in the Denver Prep League opener for both teams.

Montbello improved to 2-2, while West fell to 1-3.

East 31, South 6

Blake Swain threw for two touchdowns and ran for two as the Angels handled the Rebels in a DPL opener for both teams. East is 2-2.

South’s Jahmelle Robinson had an 80-yard scoring run and finished with 204 yards on 23 carries. South (0-4) has been outscored 175-13.

D. Ridge 53, Golden 40

Lakewood – Tied at 40 after three quarters, the 4A No. 7 Eagles (3-1, 2-1) got touchdowns from Cody Lunsford and Taylor Trotter to outlast the Demons (1-3, 1-2) in the Mountain Plains League.

A. West 56, Cen. (G.J.) 0

Grand Junction – L.D. Briscoe returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown as the 5A Wildcats rocked the 4A Warriors in nonleague play at Stocker Stadium.

Fifth-ranked A-West moved to 3-1 as six Wildcats scored, including two on defense – a 98-yard interception return by Chris Biren and a fumble recovery in the end zone off a blocked punt by Wes D’Andrea. Central (G.J.) is 1-3.

Limon 61, Peyton 7

Limon – The top-ranked Badgers (4-0, 1-0), two-time defending 1A champions, had no trouble in South Central play, rolling to their 30th consecutive victory. They didn’t punt.

Peyton is 1-4, 0-2.
