One man was killed and two others were injured early Sunday when gunfire erupted at a “house party that went bad,” Denver police said.
The party was in the 2500 block of Clermont Street, said police spokeswoman Virginia Lopez.
A man was assaulted at the party, left and came back with a handgun about 2:30 a.m, Lopez said. He opened fire and shot three people.
“Numerous partygoers then jumped the suspect, manhandled him pretty good and held him until authorities arrived,” Lopez said.
One man was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity wasn’t released.
Two other men were taken to Denver Health Medical Center, Lopez said. Their conditions were not known.
After officers arrived at the Clermont address, they spotted a man discarding a weapon at East 26th Avenue and Cherry Street. He was taken into custody and the weapon was recovered, although it is unclear whether the two incidents are related, Lopez said.
She described the shootings as a “house party that went bad” and said, “We believe there are gang ties to this particular party.”
No other details were available Sunday evening.
