The wet, chilly weather Sunday apparently spawned a number of accidents in the Denver area and west on Interstate 70. No fatalities were reported.

Several of the seven people in a minivan involved in an accident before noon on I-70 between Bakerville and the eastern approach to the Eisenhower Tunnel were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries, said Trooper Eric Wynn of the Colorado State Patrol.

An accident involving a handful of vehicles occurred on the interstate just east of the El Rancho exit just before 1 p.m., Wynn said.

“We’ve got snow, we’ve got ice, and we’ve got the chain law in effect,” said Lisa Lane of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Traffic Operations Center. Chains were required on all commercial vehicles on both approaches to the Eisenhower Tunnel and on U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass, she said.

“Traffic is moving pretty slow. That’s the good news as far as traveling at a safe speed is concerned,” Lane said.

In Denver, there was a rollover accident on Interstate 25 near East Evans Avenue at about 2 p.m., with two people taken to Swedish Medical Center in unknown condition, said Detective John White. About five minutes later, an 18-wheeler and two cars were involved in an accident on I-25 near South Colorado Boulevard, White said. There wasn’t any information about injuries in that wreck, but no fatalities were reported.

White said a car ended up in the median at I-70 and I-25 about 2:30 p.m., but there was no injury.
