Colorado received an at-large berth Monday to the NCAA women’s soccer tournament and will take a 12-7-3 record into its opening-round match Friday against Cal-Riverside (11-4-5) at UCLA.
The No. 1-seeded Bruins (17-1-2) play Mississippi Valley State (9-7-2) in the other first-round match at UCLA, with the winners meeting Sunday to advance.
It’s the third consecutive season the Buffaloes have advanced to the NCAA Tournament. They lost in the first round in 2003 and in the second round in 2004. CU lost 2-1 in double overtime to Texas A&M in the Big 12 championship match Sunday in San Antonio.
Harrison’s CSU debut a big hit
Colorado State forward Michael Harrison made a successful debut in the Rams’ lineup, leading them to an 87-51 victory over visiting Regis at Moby Arena in their opening exhibition game. Harrison, a junior college All-American at Northeastern in Sterling who transferred to CSU, scored a game-high 25 points in his first game for the Rams.
Metro State to host NCAA soccer regional
Defending national champion Metro State (21-0) will host the Division II Midwest Regional and play Friday against the University of the Incarnate Word (14-3-3) from San Antonio at 11 a.m. at Auraria Field. The other first- round match pits Regis (17-5) against Central Oklahoma (16-3-1) at 1:30 p.m. The winners meet Sunday at noon.
Fort Lewis, Colorado Mines in NCAA field
No. 1 ranked-Fort Lewis and Colorado Mines were selected to play in the NCAA Tournament of Division II men’s soccer. The Orediggers (13-6-3) play Incarnate Word (14-4-2) in a first-round match Friday at Dirks Field on the Fort Lewis campus in Durango. Fort Lewis (18-0-1) received a first-round bye and will play the winner of Friday’s match on Sunday.
