Coors Brewing Co. has named N. Cornell Boggs III its new chief legal officer.
Boggs was featured on the March 2005 cover of Corporate Counsel magazine as one of 10 lawyers expected to steer the legal activities of top U.S. and international corporations.
At the Golden-based brewery, Boggs will be responsible for legal affairs, government affairs, corporate communications and other matters. He couldn’t be reached for comment on Tuesday.
Boggs built a division-level legal department at Tyco Plastics and Adhesives in Princeton, N.J., where he served as vice president and general counsel after joining manufacturing conglomerate Tyco International in 2003.
Earlier in his career, he served as associate general counsel with beer giant Anheuser-Busch, Americas regional counsel for chip maker Intel and assistant general counsel with biotechnology company Monsanto Co.
“Cornell has enjoyed a distinguished career, and we at Coors are fortunate to be gaining a professional of his caliber,” Coors chief executive Frits van Paasschen said Tuesday in a press release.
Boggs was involved in a case that cleared the way for Anheuser-Busch to be a sponsor of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Utah, according to Minority Corporate Counsel Association’s bi-monthly magazine, Diversity & The Bar.
Utah state laws prohibiting the advertising of alcoholic beverages stood in the way of Anheuser-Busch’s plans to sponsor the Games, according to the magazine. Boggs’ legal work with the company’s senior director of government affairs led to the laws’ being declared unenforceable.
Before getting into corporate law, Boggs graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana and served as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.
