Brookings, S.D. – The University of Denver lost a seven-point lead with 50 seconds left in regulation, then watched as Matt Cadwell hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime Saturday night to give South Dakota State an improbable 81-78 victory.
The Jacks (2-7) sent the game into overtime on a 3-pointer by Andy Kleinjan at the end of regulation.
Junior forward Antonio Porch scored 25 points and had eight rebounds, and junior guard DaShawn Walker scored 23 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Pioneers (5-2).
DU opened the second half with a 9-2 run to build a 44-29 lead with 15:55 remaining in the game. The Pioneers led 63-53 with 3:34 left and 69-62 with 50 seconds remaining. The Jacks ended regulation with an 8-1 run.
DU senior center Yemi Nicholson had a season-low eight points.
Fort Lewis 67, Metro State 64
Durango – The 14th-ranked Roadrunners dropped their second game in two nights.
The Skyhawks (5-1, 2-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) trailed 46-35 with 14:07 left, but a 13-2 run tied the game at 48 four minutes later. Fort Lewis took the lead for good, 61-60, on two free throws by Tim Bieri.
Guard Ryan Johnson was the game’s high scorer with 20 points for Fort Lewis. Guy Meyer scored 13 points and Bieri added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Drew Williamson and Dustin Ballard each scored 15 points for Metro State (3-4, 0-2).
Colorado Mines 68, Western State 52
Gunnison – Ian Elseth scored 22 points and Travis Test added 16 to lead the Orediggers (5-3, 1-1 RMAC), who shot 52 percent from the floor.
Devan Royer scored 15 points for Western State (3-5, 0-2).
Fort Hays State 86, UC-Colorado Springs 59
Colorado Springs – Derrick Turner scored 28 points on 12-of-14 shooting as the Tigers (9-1, 2-0 RMAC) rolled.
Patrick Hannaway scored 28 points and Bryan Snyder added 19 to lead UCCS (1-5, 1-1).
Adams State 64, Regis 59
Alamosa – Phil Brown scored 17 points while hitting 8-of-9 shots, and Roman Moniak scored 15 points to lead the Grizzlies (4-2, 2-0 RMAC).
Buster Miller scored 20 points to lead Regis (2-5, 0-2). Jason Deich added 14.
