Denver police have arrested an accused police impersonator after he allegedly snatched his victim’s wallet and fled, said Detective Virginia Lopez.

Wesley Fausett, 44, was arrested Sunday, she said.

The suspect approached a man sitting in his parked vehicle in the 1500 block of Champa Street about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. He showed the victim a Department of Corrections card and said he was working undercover, Lopez said. He then asked for the victim’s license, registration and proof of insurance.

When the victim tried to retrieve the items, the suspect grabbed the wallet and ran away, Lopez said.

Fausett was arrested a short time later.

Anyone who has been approached by Fausett is urged to contact Denver police.
