Colorado programs that house and serve the homeless received $14 million in federal grants announced Tuesday by Housing and Urban Development Deputy Secretary Roy Bernardi.
The grants are among the $1.33 billion that HUD is providing nationwide for programs serving the homeless. Of the $14 million, programs in Denver are to receive $9 million.
Among the largest Colorado recipients is a team that includes Volunteers of America, Urban Peak, Family Tree, Parent Pathways, and Family Advocacy, Care, Education, Support, or FACES, which received more than $1 million.
“This grant will enable us to continue to do some of the work we’re already doing,” said Debora Judish, executive director of FACES, which serves young women with children in transitional housing.
FACES is among 3,000 programs nationwide serving mothers and their children that will receive a total of $739 million in grants. Nationally, nearly 5,000 programs providing service to about 172,000 people will receive money.
