Q: Great Scott!!!
Love your column, love your advice! I haven’t had any need of love or relationship advice, but I have really enjoyed everything you’ve had to say. You asked, so I wracked my brain and finally thought of something to ask you, so I clicked your link! 🙂
I’ve been a stay-at-home-mom for 10 years now — hooray! (We have four children ages 6-13.) Anyway, my husband has found himself in upper management lately and I’m wondering what is expected of the wife of executives nowadays?
I know in the old TV shows the wives held parties and dinners and blah blah blah, but this isn’t the old days anymore. Really, I feel like there isn’t much for me to do, except congratulations cards for marriages and babies that I send out to his employees when needed.
My husband isn’t very socially active, so parties and dinners aren’t an option really anyway. I am trying to decide what would be appropriate holiday gifts for this season… but other than that I’m just at a loss.
Is that all that is needed? And if so, what ARE nice, yet not terribly expensive, gifts to give to a variety of people?
I have NO idea, having been out of the workplace loop for so long!
Any help you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!
SCOTT: Thanks for clickin’! Forget throwing dinner parties, you’ve got four kids!
I know you didn’t write for love advice, but I always remind people with kids to keep their sex lives going. Obviously you had one before the (ahem, four) kids but many a sexual relationship seem to fade away after the miracle of birth.
Just make sure you keep that part of your relationship alive.
Now for the gift idea. What I dislike most about this time of year is the sugar. Everyone gives each other baskets of cookies, candy and chocolate and it’s just too much!
No wonder the entire guilt-ridden country runs out to renew their gym memberships after the holidays.
Now that you know what not to buy, there’s no need to worry your pretty little head over this any longer.
Keep it simple and give your husband’s business associates a nice candle for the holidays. Candles come in a variety of sizes, scents, price points, etc and they’re the perfect gift, not just for the holidays but for any occasion.
Anyone who doesn’t like a candle doesn’t belong on your list anyway. See? Easy.
Now you have more time to spend on your sex life.
