Panama City, Panama – A magnitude-6.2 earthquake shook the Pacific Coast of Panama on Friday and was felt in the interior of

the country, but until now there have been no reports of victims or material damages.

Civil defense director Roberto Velásquez told RPC radio that the seismic activity occurred at 1:26 p.m. (1826 GMT).

Citing the University of Panama’s Geosciences Institute, he said the epicenter of the quake was south of Coiba Island at a depth of 10

kilometers (6 miles).

The tremblor was felt mainly in the provinces of Herrera and Los Santos in the center of the country, and in Veraguas and Chiriqui,

more than 400 kilometers (249 miles) west of the capital.

“We have no reports up to now of damage to homes or other buildings in the affected area,” Velazquez said.
