Who: Sheldon and Katherine Spiegelman of Centennial
Where: The Bayon at Ankor Thom
Best meal: Our best meal was at Khmer Surin Restaurant in Phnom Phen. The menu consisted of both Khmer and Thai cuisine. The food was excellent; the service superb. The total cost of dinner for four was $14.40
Best deal: Our three-day, two-night tour from Phnom Phen to Ho Chi Min City (Saigon) through the Mekong Delta was incredible. We saw the floating markets, the fish hatcheries, the water buffalo and the vast rice fields. The cost of the tour: $35 per person.
Best time to go: We went in October. This is a very good time to go. The sky was clear.
Best travel tip: Don’t wait too long to see this part of the world; it is changing. The “Made in Vietnam” on the label of the quick-drying shirt I bought at REI is proof enough. And fon’t forget, you can get a tailored suit, shirt or dress made very inexpensively.
