The University of Colorado ski team continued its success in nordic events and leads the Colorado Laura Sharpe Flood Memorial Ski Invitational after Saturday’s second of four rounds at Steamboat Springs.
Colorado leads with 321 points, followed by New Mexico at 265 and the University of Denver at 261. Western State is eighth at 112; Wyoming ninth with 58.
CU finished 1-2 in the women’s 15-kilometer freestyle, with Lenka Palanova winning the event with a time of 49 minutes, 21.7 seconds. Jana Rehemaa finished second (50:04.0).
DU’s Dingle scores sixth game-winner
The University of Denver’s Ryan Dingle scored his nation-leading sixth game-winning goal to lead the 13th-ranked Pioneers hockey team to their fourth consecutive victory, a 3-2 win over Alaska-Anchorage in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage on Friday.
Dingle scored the winning goal with 9:37 to play. Ryan Helgason added a goal and an assist and Glenn Fisher stopped 13 shots for Denver (15-10-2, 12-5-2 WCHA).
CHL Eagles pad Northwest Division lead
The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League scored a 3-2 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland on Saturday. It was the Eagles’ 83rd consecutive sellout, a league record. Greg Pankewicz scored the winner with 7:32 remaining in the second period and Paulo Colaiacovo stopped 21-of-23 shots for his league-leading 19th win of the season. The Eagles extended their lead in the Northwest Division to 13 points over the Wichita Thunder.
