At least one operations manager at Denver International Airport has been placed on investigative leave following a probe by the city auditor into payroll records.
The auditor’s report deals with “whether people correctly accounted for the time they were paid for,” said Denis Berckefeldt, spokesman for auditor Dennis Gallagher.
Berckefeldt said the year-long investigation by the auditor’s office delved into questions about accounting of overtime, sick leave and vacation time.
A person who had reviewed the auditor’s report said the amount of money in question was in the tens of thousands of dollars.
A draft of the auditor’s report has been forwarded to the airport for review. The report is scheduled to be released publicly next month.
Airport officials declined to comment on the investigation.
“This is a personnel issue, and I can’t discuss it,” said airport spokesman Chuck Cannon.
The auditor’s report coincides with a reshuffling of duties at the airport, said two people familiar with the report.
Steve Lee recently was named acting deputy manager of aviation for operations at the airport.
A high-level operations manager also was placed on administrative leave. That individual did not return telephone calls seeking comment.
